Sometimes, overcoming a physical challenge seems like an impossible goal, but many foundations and organizations have dedicated themselves to making the impossible possible by awarding some unusual deaf scholarships for hearing disabilities.

Have you ever heard of the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing? If you haven’t, you might not know that this disabilities scholarships foundation offers a number of deaf scholarships for persons who are deaf or hearing impaired.

These scholarships for hearing impaired are highly competitive though, and last year only 27 persons of the 243 who applied received hearing scholarships, so don’t miss out on your chance to win one of these unusual scholarship awards – make sure you have everything required for application.

To be eligible for these hearing disability scholarships, you must have experienced a major hearing loss in both ears before you were seven years old. Students who have cochlear transplants are eligible to apply for this award as well. If you have a severe hearing loss, you must submit an audiogram to prove that your hearing loss meets the deaf scholarship award’s requirements.

Students who are eligible to receive a disability scholarship from this organization will also be enrolled full-time in an accredited college or university. These hearing scholarships range from $1,000 to $10,000. Each person may receive one financial aid scholarship each year, and no student may receive more than two of these deaf scholarships for students with disabilities.

Some of the unique tuition awards offered by this scholarships foundation include the Volta Award for Hearing Impaired Persons, the Maude Winkler Hearing Impaired Scholarship, and the Fibelman Jr. Award for the Hearing Impaired. Students are advised not to apply for specific scholarships for deaf persons, however; the scholarship committee, which is composed entirely of volunteers, will determine who gets which awards.

Each of the applications for the hearing scholarships funds administered by the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Financial Aid help must be submitted by April 20th of this year to be considered for distribution in the fall. If you don’t submit your application by that date, you’ll have to wait until next year to have your chance at this unusual scholarship opportunity.

Additionally, be sure to send all of your application materials together, with the exception of your high school or college transcripts. Disability scholarship applications submitted after 5pm on April 20th, 2009 will not be accepted for the 2009-2010 school year. If you include an email address, the foundation will notify you of your application receipt about a week after the deadline, or you can send the application by a mailing service that requires signature confirmation of receipt.

Don’t worry, though, none of the deaf scholarships for hearing disabilities by Alexander Graham Bell of this highly competitive awards program are likely to go unclaimed this year. Just get your application materials ready and plan to request an application in the fall. Get your applications in early, though, or you won’t have a chance at this exceptional scholarship; the Foundation doesn’t award latecomers. Cerebral Palsy Scholarships for students with disabilities are not in abundance so students aflicted with this condition are better served by looking for ‘scholarships for the disabled’ in general then just specifically scholarships for cerebral palsy. We will highlite the few that exist.

As a condition cerebral palsy can be difficult and, in some cases, impossible to manage. Resulting from this, it can be hard for those with some form of cerebral palsy to live their lives with relative ease, and this is shown to be true especially with regards to finding financial assistance for students looking to continue their education on into post secondary institutions.

 

The largest network for those with cerebral palsy, United Cerebral Palsy, does not offer anything in the form of national cerebral palsy scholarship programs. This being the most logical source for such disability scholarships to sprout from makes finding such scholarship programs even more difficult, as the group does not even offer a useful scholarship guide for those students interested in continuing their education. Instead they point to affiliate groups which may offer cerebral palsy scholarship awards to needy students. Fortunately, despite United Cerebral Palsy’s inability to offer much nationally in the way of solutions, there are groups and, as UCP vaguely suggests, a number of affiliate organizations which do offer financial assistance to students.

On top of applying for this limited number of scholarships for cerebral palsy, students should also consider applying to broader disability scholarships which are much more widely available and cover a number of various conditions under which those with cerebral palsy may qualify. Of course because these disabilities scholarships are not inherently for those living with cerebral palsy interested applicants should read the eligibility over carefully to make sure that they are able to receive funding from any specific source.

The Pfizer pharmaceutical company does offer a cerebral palsy scholarship which many organizations, including the UCP, direct those with the condition to. This disability scholarship is open to students with epilepsy. The aptly named Pfizer Epilepsy Scholarship Award program is open to those with cerebral palsy because epilepsy is a condition commonly associated with the condition. Every year a single $2,000 scholarship is offered to students who have overcome epilepsy in their lives, have strong academic records, participated actively in the community or school groups and have shown a sincere wish to use their education to some great advantage. The selection committee for this cerebral palsy scholarship is made up of those with extensive experience in education and medicine. This should indicate to all interested applicants that a serious desire to expand their education while overcoming their disability will be massively important throughout their application. Other eligibility requirements require students to either currently be in school or having been accepted to a university while under formal medical care for their condition. One letter of recommendation must come from the student’s doctor and a second one must be obtained from a friend, relative, teacher or employer. Along with these letters an essay must be submitted which will consider the challenges an applicant has overcome, what living with the condition has meant to an applicant, who helped them succeed in life or an achievement they are proud of. All application material is due no later than June 15 every year.

Affiliates of the UCP do in fact offer scholarship programs of their own, though this is not true across the board. Students interested in a scholarship from a UCP affiliate should contact the relevant office to see if they offer cerebral palsy scholarships in their area. A good example of a UCP affiliate which offers scholarships comes from the John J. Ingalls Memorial Scholarship as presented by the UCP Metro Boston affiliate office. This program awards three $5,000 scholarships every year in the memory of John Ingalls. This cerebral palsy scholarships are limited to college bound high school graduates or current undergraduate and graduate students who are residents of Massachusetts. All applicants must be medically diagnosed with a disability. For application materials and details, interested students should email or call the UPC Metro Boston offices. The deadline for this cerebral palsy scholarship is April 17 of every year.

Other similar types of cerebral palsy scholarships are offered by affiliates in areas such as California. Several sources suggest looking for funding at a more local level from places such as Moose Clubs, Elk Lodges or the Easter Seals. Students should also highly consider the AmeriGlide Achievers scholarships for disabled students program which would make an ideal substitute for cerebral palsy scholarships.

Hemophilia Scholarships for Disabilities

There are many Hemophilia scholarships for disabilities programs to help people with bleeding disorders. There is a hemophilia scholarship program that may apply.

If you have Hemophilia, a bleeding disorder, or any other type of bleeding disorder, you may be eligible for a number of Hemophilia Scholarships programs to help pay for college. There are also hemophilia scholarships for disabilities available for adults and school aged children who have Hemophilia or other blood disorders as well for continuing education or for tutoring.

It is important to note that not all hemophilia scholarships for disabilities are guaranteed. This means that just having the disorder does not qualify you for all available scholarships for hemophilia. Some of these blood scholarships only award a certain number per year, and some scholarships for hemophilia have additional requirements other than having a bleeding disorder, such as being a resident of a certain state.

Some Hemophilia scholarships for disabilities aren’t even for college tuition. For example, the Artistic Endeavors Scholarship is awarded to a person with a bleeding disorder for the purpose of artistic endeavors, such as writing a book or a play. You may not even have to have Hemophilia to qualify for one of these disabilities scholarships, if you have an immediate family member who does have the disorder.

This is the case for the Beth Carew Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded to the person with hemophilia or an immediate family member, as is the Bill McAdam Scholarship, The BioRx/Hemophilia of North Carolina Educational Scholarship, the Eric Dostie Memorial College Scholarship, the Factor Foundation Scholarship Program, the Hemophilia Federation of America Scholarship, the Mike Hylton and Ron Niederman Memorial Scholarship, the National Cornerstone Healthcare Services Scholarship, and the Christopher Pitkin Memorial Scholarship. The Parent Continuing Education Scholarship is awarded to the parent of a school aged child who has a blood disorder. The Sibling Continuing Education Scholarship works in the same way.

As mentioned, some Hemophilia scholarships for disability students are awarded to those with the disorder, if they live in a certain state. For example the Calvin Dawson Memorial Scholarship is for hemophiliacs who live in Florida, while the Hemophilia Foundation of Michigan Academic Scholarship is available for those living in the state of Michigan only. Some of these scholarships are for specific majors. The Scott Tarbell Scholarship is for students majoring in computer science or math. The Michael Bendix Sutton Foundation Scholarship for those who are majoring in law.

Two disabilities scholarships are awarded specifically to women who have hemophilia or other bleeding disorders. These are the Millie Gonzalez Memorial Scholarship and the Project Red Flag Academic Scholarship for Women with Bleeding Disorders. A Scholarship that is designed for younger children for the purpose of tutoring is the Edu-Grants Scholarship. The Seven Secure Adult Education Grants are awarded to people over the age of 23 who have the bleeding disorder. Again, there are many scholarships available for hemophiliacs, and while some just require you to have the disorder, some have other requirements as well.

Quinci Foundation Scholarship, and the Soozie Courter Sharing a Brighter Tomorrow Hemophilia Scholarship.

As you can see, a hemophilia scholarship program for the disabled can come from many organizations making it very possible for many to grab one to help pay for college. You just have to take the time to apply to them.

Lilly Reintegration Schizophrenia Scholarships for Disabilities

These disability scholarships are only available for those who are recovering from Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, Bipolar Disorder or Schizophreniform. These Schizophrenia scholarships are issued for every school year between October and January.

The Reintegration Scholarships are built upon the principle that those who have been affected by mental illness are still capable of reaching goals and dreams. Mental illness, like any disability, can make the journey to obtain those goals and dreams a lot tougher. The Center for Reintegration believes that this journey can be a lot easier with support and education. The Lilly Reintegration Scholarship is designed to offset the tuition, lab fees and books for those who are attending school and suffering from mental illness. The disability scholarship was created over 12 years ago. In order for those afflicted with this disease to reintegrate back into society education and vocational skills must be supported. That is where the Center for Reintegration and the Lilly Reintegration Scholarship come in.

Anyone who suffers from a mental illness has certainly heard the word ‘integration’. Integration is an important element in the process of recovery. The goal is to allow the afflicted to have a meaningful life. To allow them to be independent and live in a place that it is theirs. They need to be able to function on a daily basis within the community of family and friends. All of these relate to the process of reintegration.

The Lilly Reintegration Scholarship program was created to provide assistance for a varied range of opportunities in education. This applies to those who are working towards a certificate or degree from an accredited education facility. Online educational programs are not included in this disability scholarship. It does cover High School equivalency programs, Trade or Vocational School programs, Associate’s Degree and Bachelor’s Degree programs or Graduate Degree programs. This is not a full schizophrenia scholarship. It will not cover any living expenses, only books, fees, tuition and lab supplies. Other eligibility requirements include that the student must be receiving medical treatment for the disease. This must include some form of medication and psychiatric follow up. The applicant must also be participating in rehabilitation or reintegration activities. The applicant should also be a US Citizen attending school in the USA.

The Center for Integration normally receives around a thousand applications for the Lilly Reintegration Schizophrenia Scholarship each year. The amount of money awarded to each successful recipient varies widely as does the amount of awards that are issued. Typically around 70 schizophrenia scholarships may be awarded. The ChairScholars National Program offers scholarships for students with disabilities who live in any state in the United States. Both high school seniors and college freshmen are eligible to apply for these unique scholarships awards, and can receive up to $20,000 in college tuition assistance.

Some of the most highly regarded universities in the country have accepted these students for enrollment. This organization seeks to award scholarships for students with disabilities who are destined to become future leaders of the United States. As of this date, 177 of these unknown scholarships opportunities have been awarded to persons with disabilities, and 69 scholarship award recipients have already graduated and received their degrees.

If you want to qualify for these disability college scholarships, you must have a serious physical challenge, and demonstrate financial need for the Chair scholarship. In addition, you have to have at least a B average in your high school course work, and be less than 21 years of age. Additionally, successful applicants for these disability scholarships will have been involved in some type of community service.

To apply for the Chairscholars National Program disability essay scholarship, write an essay of 300 to 500 words, and obtain three letters offering recommendations. Furthermore, you must submit both Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and ACT (Achievement Test) scores, and your high school transcript. If you have received any honors as a result of your educational efforts, include proof of these as well.

The Chairscholars Foundation also offers special assistance to Florida residents. Students residing in Hillsborough, Polk, Sarasota, Volusia, Pinellas, or Pasco County can receive disability college scholarships that will pay for their entire Bachelor Degree program at a Florida University. Alternatively, they can receive training through the state’s vocational school program.

Students seeking these disability scholarships for college will be high school students with at least a C average who qualify for their school’s free or reduced lunch program. They must promise to steer clear of drugs and crime until they graduate, and sign a contract promising to do this. These students must have serious physical challenges, and will be assigned a mentor until their high school graduation.

As of today, more than 375 scholarships for students with disabilities have been awarded to Florida residents under the disability scholarships program funded by the Chairscholars Foundation.
