There are many Disability scholarships for Canadian students around, and they are very plentiful at NEADS, which stands for, National Educational Association of Disabled Students. They have a comprehensive set of tools for Canadian disabled students looking for scholarships, grants and financial aid, along with other very helpful bits of information for disabled people as well.

NEADS is a company with a mandate to support full access to education and employment for post-secondary students & graduates with disabilities all across Canada. Their focus is mainly on:

NEADS National Student Disability Awards Scholarships Program

Under the NEADS National Scholarships and Grants category, you will find their NEADS National disability award. They have (2) $5,000 AMI Robert Pearson Memorial Disability Scholarships, (1) NEADS Christine Nieder Memorial Award, (1) NEADS Holly Bartlett Memorial Scholarship, and (6) NEADS National Student Awards.

To apply, applicants must be Canadian residents, have a permanent disability, and studying full time at a Canadian accredited University. The criteria for selection is based on: Demonstrated potential to be an outstanding participant in the community, outstanding record of volunteerism and/or employment, and must have a strong commitment to your academic discipline as well. NEADS GE Foundation Scholar-Leaders Program for Disabilities

Also in the NEADS Financial Aid Directory is the GE Foundation Scholar-Leaders Program in Canada. This disability student award gives financial support along with skills development opportunities to fifteen accomplished 1st-year undergraduate students from recognized institutions whom are pursuing degrees in the fields of business/management and engineering. $4,000 is given to winners in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years of their undergraduate programs. NEADS AUCC Scholarship Programs for Disabled Students

Ten students have the opportunity to win the AUCC Scholarship Program for a value of $5,000 per year for those who apply before June 1st of every year. The Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC) have two student aid financial programs to help post secondary students with disabilities. They are called the The AUCC Scholarship for Students with Disabilities and Mattinson Scholarships.

NEADS Canadian Hard of Hearing Association (CHHA) Scholarship Program Disability Student Financial Award

The Canadian Hard of Hearing Association (CHHA) Scholarship Program offers (3) $1,000 awards to those with a hearing loss, and full time students in ANY area of study. The (CHHA) Scholarships draw awareness to those suffering with hearing loss and what it’s like to have it.

Wayne and Walter Gretzky Scholarship Foundation for Disabled Students

The Wayne and Walter Gretzky Scholarship Foundation offers numerous awards of $5,000 to students afflicted with vision impairment. To qualify, applicants must submit a essay, and fill out an online application and answer questions presented. August 1st is deadline.

Copnick/Hilliard Scholarship Fund for Disability Students

The Copnick/Hilliard Scholarship Fund gives $1,000 for the physically disabled student enrolled at the post-secondary level in Canada. Apply before August 31st yearly.

The Active Living Alliance for Canadians with Disabilities Graduate Student Research Scholarships & Award

The Active Living Alliance for Canadians with Disabilities Graduate Student Research Award is for graduate students conducting research that encourages themes of physically active lifestyles among Canadians with disabilities. Students who are currently enrolled in a graduate-level program at a Canadian University are all eligible to apply. The applicant must be the main author of their submitted paper, and will present their findings at the National Alliance Forum. All student expenses are paid for.

OBCL Epilepsy Disabilities Scholarships

The OBCL Epilepsy Scholarship is a $1,000 award open to Ontario students 16-21 years old who have epilepsy. May 29th is deadline.

Global Television Network Scholarship

The Global Television Network Scholarship is an Internship Award for a Canadian student with a physical disability. It provides a $15,000 award-internship to a Canadian student who has a mobility impairment. Those students eligible to apply for this award must be a Canadian citizen, have a physical disability, be a secondary school graduate with a grade average suitable for admission to radio and television arts or journalism programs at recognized post-secondary schools, all must be in Canada. May 31st is deadline.

Rehabmart.com Disability Scholarships

Rehabmart.com that are worth looking into because there are multiple awards given out yearly which increases the chances of winning. Rehabmart.com has established a $25,000 scholarship fund for students with disabilities, and for students pursuing a college degree in a health sciences/healthcare-related field, along with students pursuing special education degrees.

Rehabmart is owned and operated by Occupational and Physical Therapists who also happen to be parents of disabled children. They have designed their Scholarships to promote awareness to the cause of making higher education accessible for students living with disabilities. Rehabmart.com strongly feels that this is a way for them to give back, while at the same time showing their gratitude for the healthcare, health sciences and special education professions.

In 2016 there were 35 Rehabmart scholarship winners from a pool of 900 applicants who responded. This was the very first year that the scholarship was offered by Rehabmart.

Students can apply online for a chance to win from $250 to $2,500 by writing a short thoughtful essay about this question posted on their scholarship website page:

“What medical device, technology, or therapeutic technique do you believe has made the biggest difference in the life (or will make in the future) of a disabled adult or child? Tell us what your chosen device / technology / technique is, and explain how it has/will make a difference”.

The essays most considered are ones which have 250 or more words in them, and are clear, concise, and informative biographies having pertinent material such as how applicants overcame their own physical & mental challenges, what extra-curricular activities they participate in, what causes they volunteer for, and alternative ways that people are helping others.

Students with a disability of ANY major can also apply too for a chance at winning one of the awards; and not just health science students and special needs education. There will be multiple disability scholarships given out to those qualified fitting the scholarship criteria. The deadline date for all submissions is May 31st.

Axon Optics Migraine Story Scholarships for Disability

Axon Optics has a $1,000 disability scholarship for students affected in one way or another by migraine. Any full time student can apply too. To apply, applicants must submit an essay with no more then (300) words, OR a video less then one minute, OR an image such as a drawing or photograph, or similar: on answering ONE of these questions:

1) What is your migraine story?
2) What is your light sensitivity story?

This MUST be submitted on the applicants social media account!

This past year’s submission deadline has just passed (November 30th) , but you can apply for next year.

Axon Optics is a provider of eyeglasses and contact lenses that block the wavelengths of light shown to reduce light sensitivity & migraines. They assist hundreds of individuals who suffer with this incurable debilitating illness. It is estimated that over 10% of the population suffer from migraine headaches and it has become the eighth most disabling illness in the world today.

ASAN Autistic Scholars Fellowship Scholarship Program for Students with Disabilities

Autistic Self Advocacy Network (ASAN) is a non-profit organization run by and for Autistic people. It was started for the disability rights for the Autistic community. They work for Autistic public policy changes, cultural activities, information, education, and advocacy relevant Autistic projects.

Up to six students have a chance to win $5,000 in tuition disability scholarships who suffer from autism. Applicants will be screened based on a strong background in civil rights activism, a commitment in working in an inclusive fashion, and building up of the the Autistic cause in their college – all for Autistic people. November 15th is deadline yearly.

American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation Disabilities Scholarships for Graduate Students

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation offers up to (15) scholarships, $ 5,000 each, for students enrolled full time in graduate study in a communication sciences and disorders program in the US. Two each will be awarded for minority, international, and NSSLHA students. It appears that this award does NOT need applicants to have a disability to apply; but asking them first would be advisable before applying.

The ASHFoundation started in 1946, is a charitable organization that supports the advancement of knowledge in the field of communication sciences and strives to assist the lives of people with hearing, speech and language disorders. Its estimated that 49 million Americans are affected with a speech-language-hearing disorder of some kind.

Bella Soul Disabled Scholarships

The Bella Soul Yow Sibling disability scholarships are for full time students who actively participates in taking care of their sibling with a physical ailment, physical disease, and/or physical disability – ie. suffering with some type of chronic illness or physical disability. Not based on GPA. Applicants are to write a three page double spaced essay about what it’s like taking care of a sibling afflicted with a disease/disorder of some type:

1) Explain day to day routine.
2) Explain what you have learned from your sibling who is confronting a disability?
3) What advice would you give to another individual confronting similar adversity?

Applicants do not have to be suffering from a disability to apply to this scholarship either.

Mansfield Hall as Good As Disability Financial Aid

Mansfield Hall is a creative college support program along with a learning and living community for students who have a disability. They are all about providing academic individual support to disabled students so they can thrive in college. They want to help students create a meaningful life by advancing credible living skills in those individuals for more independent living.

Reaching true potential is what Mansfield Hall try’s to incorporate in their students by using (4) approaches – Learning, Living, Giving, and Engaging. Transitioning from high school to college can be challenging, and Mansfield Hall understands this.

There are two locations; one in Burlington, Vermont and the other in Madison Wisconsin. They are located in the middle of campus life where students can attend any local area college, or colleges. A team of highly trained Mansfield Hall workers provide any needed support for students with disabilities in helping them reach their full potential.

Autism Ontario has Disability Scholarships

Autism Ontario supports students with Autism Spectrum Disorders. They have support chapters in many communities in Ontario, Canada and work hard to increasing public awareness about Autism so individuals afflicted, can live productive life’s in society.

Autism Ontario has scholarships for Ontario residents which open up in February every year that can be applied to. There are three disability scholarship categories; one for individuals with autism, one for siblings of a person on the autism spectrum, and one for children on the autism spectrum.

Government of Ontario Website & Disabled Student Financial Aid

On the Government of Ontario Website, all students can look into disability student financial aid options that can assist them in finding programs to help pay for college. Canada is big on offering bursaries to help students. Bursaries are essentially the same as scholarships. Canada’s student financial aid programs are favorable towards out of country students too.

They offer disability financial aid in many forms. They have a Featured Scholarships tab that has some of the best financial aid awards.

Attending college in Canada can be easy because Bursaries as well as Scholarships are given to out of country students more liberally then other countries, thus making attending more affordable.

AAPD for Disability Financial Aid

The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) offers disability scholarships and they are called the NBCUniversal Tony Coelho Media Scholarship. They hand out (8) disability financial aid scholarships of $5,625 each to 2nd year associate students sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduate students majoring in media, communications or the entertainment industry.

Tony Coelho, who served under Bill Clinton, was a representative from California and the main author of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The American Foundation for the Blind handed out (11) college scholarships for disabled blind or visually impaired students. The AFB champions itself for leading the vision loss community. They strive to have vision disabled people with having equal opportunities as others –  who are not vision impaired.

I can speak from personal experience you want this type of assistance to insure you get the benefits your entitled to receive. This process can sometimes be daunting and emotionally draining when applying; and also when you get declined for benefits you feel you deserve.

They also can connect visitors with valuable resources by staying up to date with SS Disability offerings & valuable information through their website and Blog. To sum them up and get an idea of what this organization is all about, the Disability Care Center has promise’s to ensure that:

The Special Education Scholarship

This disability financial aid scholarship is for those who are just majoring in special education. You do not need to have a disability to apply to this award, but you must be majoring in special education. Applicants must submit their essays explaining why they choose the field of study in special education; and how will you make a difference in the lives of the disabled. The awards is for $500.00 and the application deadline is August 1st, 2016.

The Disabled Student Scholarship

Students who are suffering with an existing disability can only apply to this disabilities scholarship; but they must presently be enrolled in college. A physician must provide a letter confirming all student disabilities. This award is also for $500.00 too, and deadline is the same as above. Students must provide an essay which describes how you overcame an obstacle or hardship you were confronted with. Also explain its impact on your life and how this changed you to handle future obstacle’s.

Disability Care Center Scholarships Essay Requirements

Essays are to be between 500 – 1500 words. The essay is the item that scholarship judges will base their decisions on so make it clean. They will be looking for an essay that has quality content, original, that has a writing style to it, and provide some research if necessary.

Eligibility Requirements for Disability Care Center Scholarships

All applicants must be enrolled in a US college at least full time (12 credit hours) for the upcoming school semester, have a GPA of 2.5 or higher with one letter of recommendation from a creditable person or source and a US resident.

The Gavalas Kolanko Foundation Disability Scholarships

The Gavalas Kolanko Foundation awards scholarships for students with physical disabilities. They are public charity established to help disabled students reach their secondary educational objectives. They do this by their disability financial aid.

They direct their awards to South Carolina undergraduates who want to attend the College of Charleston, Charleston Southern University, The Citadel, Trident Technical College, the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), and the Art Institute of Charleston who have some type of physical disability, such as sight, movement, or hearing.

They have five applications based on student academic direction & college desired with various deadline & submission dates.
Disability financial aid is given out based on academic achievements, financial need and community involvement.

Michigan Cerebral Palsy Achievements and Abilities Scholarship for Students with/or Affected by Cerebral Palsy

This disability scholarship was established to create awareness about cerebral palsy (CP) and to honor the achievements of those directly effected by CP. One disability financial aid award of $1,500 is given out yearly to an undergraduate, or graduate student afflected with CP; or a family member who has CP. Deadline is end of July.

Applicants must be US citizens, undergraduate, or graduate at a US university and enrolled as full time with a GPA of 3.00 or higher.
Michigan Cerebral Palsy Attorneys are Michigan based attorneys who specialize almost exclusively on cerebral palsy and birth injury cases.

Craig H Neilsen Scholarship Fund for Students with Disabilities

Offered by the University of Utah, these scholarships for students with physical disabilities are for those students who suffer with a spinal cord injury and whose educational direction is business related, or law. Entering freshmen through continuing undergraduates can apply, and there are no state residency requirements. The award is for $7,000.

The DREAM Institute HEAP Scholar Award Scholarship for Students with Physical Disabilities

These awards are for those who will be attending a college in Oaklahoma full time with a physical, or learning disability.

Scholarships are based on financial need and based on two and four year educational programs.

The DREAM Institute is a tax exempt organization whose mission is to help those with disabilities fulfill their life purpose via the educational experience for students with a disability. They do this by academic & professional mentor-ship, academic assistance and through scholastic awards.

Marianjoy Scholarship Program

Since 1994 $750,000 in scholarships for students with a physical disability have been awarded from the Marianjoy Foundation.

Students who apply can attend any college in any field of study too.

Students are selected based on financial need, past leadership & community participation, goals they have towards education & career, and their physical disability they presently have.

Applicants must be from the Illinois counties of: Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, McHenry, or Will to apply.

The Marianjoy Foundation sole purpose is to provide support & awareness in supporting Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital’s mission in serving people with disabilities through patient treatment, education, research, and community programs.

The National Amputation Foundation Scholarships

The NAF sponsors the “The Claude S. Weiler Scholarship for Amputee College Students”.

To apply, applicants must be planning on full time college study.

September 1st – August 31st you may submit your applications.

Applicants must be US citizens.

Microsoft Disability Scholarships

High school students looking to study technology in a college or vocational school with any disability having financial need, with a 3.00 GPA may apply.

Students may also choose a major in engineering, computer science, computer information systems, law, business,or a related field (paralegal, pre-law, finance, business administration, or marketing) to apply.

Demonstrating a passion for technology is key to this award.

$5,000 will be awarded to each student and lots will be handed out yearly.

All applicants will be asked to write (3) essays to apply – (2) 500 word and (1) 250 word to three Microsoft questions.

American Association on Health and Disability Scholarships

Called the The Frederick J Krause Scholarship on Health & Disability; applicants must be full time in a health related field. An award up to $1,000 is given away to many who apply.
