If you or someone you know is legally blind, you’ll be glad to hear more about a scholarship for the visually impaired to get help with college tuition.

Christian Record Services was founded to offer free Christian reading materials to every blind or sight-impaired person in North America. The organization estimates that each year, 100,000 people receive the unique and valuable assistance of their services. This group also offers disability scholarships to persons who are legally blind. This means that their vision, with glasses or corrective lenses, is still 20/200. This means that what a person could normally see at 200 feet, these individuals can see at no more than 20 feet.

Additionally, to be eligible, students who are applying for this christian blind disability scholarship must intend to enroll in a college or university on a full-time basis. They must also be undergraduates who are seeking necessary training or education to help them live independent lives and support themselves.

Student applicants are required to attach a financial budget to this visually impaired scholarship application, as well as a photo of themselves. They are also required to submit forms offering character references from three different persons.

While the organization desires to provide as many unique scholarships for students with disabilities as possible, their ability to help is dependent upon the moneys they receive. For the school year that started in August 2008, the organization provided ten christian scholarships for people with disabilities. Each student received $500 in scholarships funds, half to be used for each semester of the school year.

Students who wish to apply for the Christian Record Services scholarships should submit their application and their references to the organization no later than April 1st of the year that they are requesting the disability scholarship. The committee has promised to notify students who apply by June of that year whether they were chosen to receive this unusual and unknown college award.
